A brand-new show choir is launching just in time to chase away those winter blues. Find your voice within YOUR CHOIR. Anyone and everyone can be a part of this amazing singing experience founded by local choir leader, Mike Tandy.
The highly anticipated Your Choir launches in January 2022 in King’s Lynn on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and an evening session on Wednesdays. Wisbech on Tuesday evenings and Hunstanton on Thursday evenings. Rehearsals will last for 2 hours which includes enough time for a cuppa and a catch up. No auditions are required to join, and you don’t have to read sheet music or be an experienced singer to take part.
Your Choir will enable you to learn bespoke arrangements and repertoire from popular music and rock songs, as well as some well-loved Musicals from the West End and Broadway. As a member, you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of concerts, from big theatres to smaller local venues and events.
It’s been scientifically proven that singing is good for you. It improves our sense of happiness and wellbeing. Research has found, for example, that people feel more positive after actively singing than they do after passively listening to music or after chatting about positive life events. Long before COVID-19, music therapists used singing to help patients with respiratory issues like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Longer breaths can help promote relaxation and reduce the body’s stress response. Add in a friendly atmosphere and a room of like-minded people and you’ve got yourself the perfect recipe for a Choir.
Your Choir needs your voice. They say “It’s not a Choir without people.” Well, they’re right. That’s where YOU come in.
Your Choir Musical Director, Mike Tandy, thinks everybody can sing. Or at least everyone can have a go. “Singing IS for everybody. Yeah sure, singing on your own is great! However, singing in a Choir is magical. Being part of the group, being part of the harmony, nothing beats it and it’s a chance to escape everyday life”.
Mike is no stranger to the choral scene throughout West Norfolk as he has led many Choirs and Musical Groups locally for the best part of the last decade.
Throughout his vast musical career and choir leading, Mike Tandy has raised thousands of pounds for local charities mainly centred around the QE Hospital, Kings Lynn. He has a wheelchair racing around the corridors from the infamous Wheely Big Appeal, a large donation of toys for the Rudham Children’s ward at Christmas was delivered, and more recently, funds were raised for the COVID 19 Fund and the Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal. Other local charities Mike and his past choirs have raised important funds for are Tapping House Hospice along with performing at and supporting the Race For Life runners at Houghton Hall. He has also sponsored national charities such as The Anthony Nolan Trust and the Make A Wish Foundation. Raising money for charities is something that Mike is very keen to continue with through Your Choir, watch this space.
